Emergency Announcement Requests

System-Wide Internal Messages (SWIMs) have been replaced. If you are trying to submit an event or announcement for the weekly Important Stuff Joe Knows newsletter, click this link: https://myuthealthnews.org/submit-news. UTHSCT no longer sends individual emails communicating routine announcements and events.

What constitutes an emergency?

The following form is to be used ONLY for Emergency Announcement requests. Planned events will almost never fall under this category unless a major / public event is being imminently cancelled or moved due to inclement weather, a power outage, or some other unplanned reason beyond anyone’s control.

Routine events and announcements that have missed the deadline for inclusion in the Important Stuff Joe Knows newsletter are not considered Emergency Announcements and will not be distributed.

The following types of incidents would typically qualify for an Emergency Announcement:

  • An immediate, unplanned, temporary closure of one of the major streets on campus.
  • A traffic crash on one of the major highways leading to campus, which would hinder employees, students, patients, and guests wanting to travel to or from campus.
  • An unplanned elevator outage that just happened and would require the public to use another bank of elevators to access upper floors of a building (Example: “ALL of the G Building elevators are out. Please take the A Building elevators to the 2nd floor and walk to the G Building.)
  • Immediate cancellation of all classes, meetings, appointments, services, in a particular area due to a utility outage or similar issue. (Example: “There’s no electricity on the third floor of the Academic Center, so classes and meetings there are cancelled this afternoon.”)

The following do not qualify for an Emergency Announcement:

  • Almost everything that is scheduled in advance. Any kind of scheduled meeting, maintenance, upgrades/updates, construction, relocation, photography, etc.
  • Submit all such items for inclusion in Important Stuff Joe Knows here: https://www.myuthealthnews.org/submit-news.
